Plant Functional Biologist and Biochemist specializing in functional and systems biology. Hold a PhD in Biochemistry and Biotechnology from the University of the Western Cape, South Africa. Had been a visiting scientist at Cambridge University, UK and currently a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the BioMolecular Research Group, Biological and Environmental Sciences and Engineering Division at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology. I am interested in understanding the crosstalk in the ‘omics’ world, thus focuses in transcriptomics and proteomics applications to bridge the gap between phenomics and genomics by providing insights towards cellular responses to environmental stresses such as drought, salt and cold. In addition, my research also includes understanding the role of second messengers such as cyclic AMP, cylic GMP and nitric oxide in plant systems particularly in response to abiotic stress. My current research focuses on abiotic and biotic stress-dependent protein modifications involving methionine oxidation, citrullination and phosphorylation at the systems level using advanced proteomics technologies. In addition, I investigates the role of RNA interactome in responses to abiotic stress as well as fruit development and regulation using functional genomics.
